As a business owner you are always representing your business, so, it’s important to maintain a healthy business mindset. You regularly face a myriad of decisions, which require a clear mind and view of your business information. One way that you can maintain this mindset is to use affirmations. Just think about it, where your mind goes is where your feelings and actions will go, and ultimately, where your business will follow. Isn’t that a scary thought? That’s a wakeup call for every business owner! Almost every business owner I know, has experienced low periods in their business. It’s difficult to separate negative thoughts about your business from negative actions. It’s also difficult to implement more positive actions, when you are looking at your business through a negative mindset.
Affirmations are positive statements that you can repeat to yourself on a regular basis. They are designed to counteract and diffuse negative, self-defeating or other incorrect images that may be residing in your brain. Using affirmations can be helpful when you are facing stressful business situations or emergencies. You can use them as reminders, to regain your perspective, before proceeding to the next step in a difficult situation. Affirmations can also bring a measure of calm and optimism when you are in the grip of self-defeating or painful thoughts and feelings.
Affirmations are advantageous to you as a business owner, because they can lift your mood, transform your perspective, increase your motivation, enable you to think outside of the box more easily and generally increase your optimism.
Affirmations are a formal way to direct your thoughts about your business. You can apply affirmations to your business at anytime. You can apply them multiply times, as needed, depending upon how helpful you find them. Some people incorporate affirmations into their spiritual practice, into their journaling practice, into their break times or during especially important appointments and planning sessions. It’s important that you practice using affirmations wherever and whenever they are most helpful to you and your business.
Affirmations provide a measurable way for you to document what steps you are taking toward changing a particular negative thought pattern (and eventually action) about your business. Remember that change will not come overnight. However, as you develop the habit of affirmation practice, you may become aware of changes in both your thoughts, feelings and actions. You may also become aware of new areas that need more affirmation practice. Each business owner’s situation, schedule, results and will be solution will be unique..
Affirmations are also lend themselves to a simple format that you can adapt to fit your business needs. As I’ve mentioned already, you can schedule your affirmation practice any time you feel the need to use them. You can even educate and encourage your employees in the use of affirmations as you see fit.
Affirmations are most effective when you use them regularly. Just like any other habit, such as writing gratitude lists, the more you exercise your affirmation muscles the stronger they will become and the quicker you will experience positive results.
For more information about how to write your own affirmations, please refer to the following article,
Create Your Own Affirmations, in it you will find examples of specific affirmations that you can adapt to your individual business.
Remember to be bold, experiment and create affirmations that will support and promote your unique business goals and change your business mindset. Expect positive results to happen!

I really enjoyed the way this article presents the case for affirmations in the business world. The connection between Affirmations (which for me relates to spiritually) and business success is obvious to those who want to scratch beneath the surface. In my new HR book, Wingtips with Spurs, the longest chapter in the book is devoted to the spirit and the successful career. It also covers the connectiveness of our actions and the important of spiritual wisdom.
If you find spiritual beliefs contrary to science, then spiritual beliefs are viewed as measly superstitions and fallacies. This popular view is simply wrong. Science and religion operate under vastly different parameters. In my management book, Wingtips with Spurs: Lessons From the Ranch, I devote an entire chapter in this ‘business’ book to the connection of business success and aiming for a higher calling. In spite all of the majesty and awe that the scientific world inspires, science is not designed to answer the questions that religion asks. Nor should we use religion to fill in the ‘God of the gaps.’ Religion should embrace science as it improves our ability to explain how God put things together. Indeed, elites of organized religions hate the efforts to seek a scientific context for the appreciation of spiritual phenomena. They seek to control humanity with doctrine and dogma. Science in its intellectual, methodical, peer-reviewed processes can deepen our wonder and amazement at the power of God. Instead of warring factions, the two sides should encourage each other. I saw a newspaper headline recently that read, “Darwin vs. God, Round 2007: Kansas Declares Darwin Winner.” This is wrong on many levels. Splashy headlines are one thing; gross irresponsibility is another. I cannot stress it enough. God and science are not at odds. They never have been. Francis S. Collins, the scientist who lead the Human Genome Project, stated it best when he said, “Science is not threatened by God; it is enhanced.” Michael L. Gooch, SPHR http://www.michaellgooch.com
Hi Michael,
Thanks very much for your extensive comment. I agree with you on many levels, regarding affirmations and spirituality as well as how science and religion can complement each other. I look forward to reading your future posts.
