Goal Setting

The first day of the month is a great time to review last months achievements and set down what you want to achieve in the month to come.

What is your long term goal?

Last month what steps did you take that bring you closer to the main goal? It can be very gratifying to list all your accomplishments - sometimes we feel we are going no where until you look behind you and see how far away is the shore.

Also list activities that didn’t seem to be successful. Remove judgmental feelings so that you can work out why you became involved in those activities. Were they experimental in nature? If so what did you learn? Were they sabotaging actions or time wasters? If so what part of your thinking process trap you?

When you plan this month’s goals, what systems can you have in place to help you avoid the traps you feel into last month? Did you pay your bills late and incur fines? put a date in your calendar right now to automate all your bill paying? Did you end up spending far too much time on social networking sites with little gain? Allocate a time on your daily calendar for such activities and close them completely the rest of the time. Also ask yourself what your goal is when you visit such sitesĀ  - are you relationship building, informing your community of a new blog post or product or are you trying to make new connections?

When you set your goals for the month, put as many systems in place to help you achieve your aims. If accountability helps you then get an accountability partner or team, or write your goals on your blog so they are in the public domain. If you get overwhelmed easily then break your goals down into small chunks of 15 minutes so that they seem very achievable. Use a schedule to keep you on track. Make your goals measurable and keep an account of your progress.

Don’t forget to build in some time every week and at the end of the month to celebrate your achievements. Reward yourself for all your hard work.
