How big do you think?
Katherine ReschkeI was talking with my good friend Judith Stephens about my plan to do some public speaking on divorcing well. She immediately saw the possibility to turn a few speaking engagements into a huge membership site. She spotted my lack of enthusiasm and asked if the thought scared me.
Umm yes!!! Thinking big really scares me. I am happy thinking about coaching but not thinking about building a coaching empire. I just do not think big. Yet part of me really wants to expand my thinking, knowing that I would have the opportunity to touch so many people’s lives. What a legacy that would be to leave behind. The money involved would also be rather nice!
So what makes us put limitations on our dreams? Why are we so scared? I know, for me, I fear the encroachment of too much to do and too much stress and the effect this would have on my family. I do not want to be faced with having to choose between my business and my children. I know if I started to grow rapidly that I can outsource but outsourcing can be a stress point in itself. These are not easy decisions but thinking small also has its price - what are we saying about ourselves when we don’t dream big.
So how big are your dreams? What scares you?

My dreams are big but, and this seems to illustrate your point, I don’t want to step out of my comfort zone, which is to have a quiet life, where my basic needs are met.
Whether this is the fruit of my education, or reflects my deep, peace-aspiring character, I don’t know. I’ve been criticized for my lack of ambition before, and really, I don’t care much.
Plus, you have plenty of time ahead of you. When your children are grown, you might want to reconsider and develop that part of you. Being aware of it is already quite an achievement, that allows you to act on it, when and if you choose to do so.
